Associate Professor Maria Nugent had a stunning October
Wednesday 25 October 2023

One outcome of Maria’s Discovery Project, “Mobilising Aboriginal Objects: Indigenous History in International Museums”, based on collaborative partnerships with The British Museum, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at Cambridge University, and members of the La Perouse Aboriginal community, was the launch on 7 October of a major exhibition at the State Library of New South Wales.

In the same week, Maria learned that she and her collaborators were successful in the ARC Discovery Indigenous scheme, which will fund a follow-on project to reconnect Aboriginal communities with cultural heritage collections overseas: “The Great Exhibitions and their Lost Indigenous Objects.”

This is fabulous news for Maria, the Australian Centre for Indigenous History, and the School of History.
